Darul Qasim subscribes to the universal message of Islam which embraces coexistence with others as part of God’s Will on Earth. It is the opinion of Shaykh Mohammed Amin Kholwadia and the Darul Qasim board, that in line with the rulings of authoritative Muslim jurists of the past and present, Muslims must abide by the laws of the sovereign state in which they reside. Following the law of the land is incumbent upon Muslims wherever they may choose to live. Any protest and/or demonstration against policies of the state must be within the legal boundaries of the given state and its laws. Anyone who chooses to violate the laws of the land should not use religion (i.e. Islam) as a cloak to violate its rules and regulations. Anyone who does, does so by his or her own volition and not under the teachings of Islam.
Darul Qasim exists to inspire and guide the pursuit of knowledge rooted in the Prophethood of Muhammad (peace be upon him). We equip students and scholars to serve their communities, engage thoughtfully in society, and share the teachings of Islam with clarity, integrity, and purpose.
Listen to Shaykh Amin Kholwadia, founder and president of Darul Qasim, as he explains the distribution and acquisition of Prophetic knowledge is central in making our lives in this country easier.

Note: The following transcript is adapted from remarks delivered by Shaykh Mohammed Amin Kholwadia during a panel discussion held at the Rayburn House Office Building in Washington D.C. on June 23, 2026. The discussion focused on Islam, Sharia, and the U.S. Constitution, addressing common misconceptions about Islamic jurisprudence and the legal obligations of Muslims living in non-Muslim societies. This transcript has been lightly edited for clarity, grammar, and readability while preserving Shaykh Amin’s original words and meaning.

How should Muslims understand the relationship between the Shari’ah, constitutional order, and life as a religious minority in America?
In this essay, Mawlana Saaleh Baseer, a graduate of Darul Qasim College, responds to recent critiques of Shaykh Amin Kholwadia’s remarks in Washington, D.C. Drawing on the Islamic legal tradition, constitutional history, theology, and historical context, he argues that these questions require careful scholarly engagement rather than reductive readings of the classical tradition.
As noted in the Editor’s Note, the views expressed are those of the author. Darul Qasim publishes this essay as part of an ongoing scholarly conversation rooted in intellectual rigor, historical nuance, adab, and the sincere pursuit of truth.

Shaykh Amin Kholwadia’s recent remarks at Capitol Hill generated widespread discussion regarding the application of Shariah in America. This article examines the scholarly foundations behind his argument, demonstrating how the Islamic legal tradition has long distinguished between Muslim and non-Muslim political contexts. Rooted in the Qur’an, Sunnah, and classical scholarship, the essay presents a nuanced framework for understanding Muslim life under non-Muslim governance.
